The Healing Power of Nature: Wind and Trees

Walk outside on a windy day. Wind and trees, an exhilarating partnership that is always rewarding. Trees bending to the wind affirms the power of nature. It gives me a sense of grounding, being completely engaged by my surroundings.

At the end of winter, still bare tree limbs allow full-sunlight to the ground below, giving the wind center stage. So different from a windy, summer day that sends green leaves dancing and placing my focus on their beauty. If you are fortunate to walk among white pine or fir trees, you’ll be able to appreciate the soft, swishing sounds their needles make as wind passes through the branches.

March Wind

There is nothing better than a March wind. It’s unpredictable. It can whip up with sudden ferocity, bringing a blast of late winter air or build to a gusty roar, bending the bird-laden branches with its strength. Stop and listen to the knocking and clacking of heavy limbs against each other as the wind moves their immense weight, seemingly without effort.

A good walk on a windy day to clear away the cobwebs from the mind.

Walking on a windy day is invigorating. To breath fresh air, feel the sunlight and stand among tall trees is simply peaceful. During these moments my mind is free to wander and I often find inspiration for a new product, sewing project, or writing. It is easier to work through an idea, using my mind’s eye while outwardly experiencing the awesome beauty of nature.

Summer Breezes

On a warm summer day, to walk among trees is meditative. As the rustle of a breeze creates a dance of leaves and dappled sunlight it’s the perfect backdrop to take in the healing power of nature. From my earliest memory, trees have captivated me. I could sit under a tree for hours and never tire of watching the leaves move. The graceful sway of a weeping willow is an excellent invitation to sit and just be.
